What Is Yoga?
It may seem like a hot new trend, but yoga actually began more than 3,000 years ago in India. The word yoga comes from Sanskrit, and it means to "yoke," or bring together the mind, body and spirit.
Although yoga includes exercise, it is also a lifestyle for which exercise is just one component. Disciplining your mind and body as well as connecting with your spirituality are the main goals of the yoga lifestyle.
At Fitness Plus, we offer many different types of yoga including:
- Gentle Yoga - Great for all levels. Focuses on slow stretches, flexibility and deep breathing.
- Hatha Yoga - Focuses on basic yoga postures, deep breathing and relaxation.
- Power Yoga - A slightly more challenging yoga class focused on flow, heat and power.
- Vinyasa Yoga - Vinyasa uses breathing as an integral part of movement and is close to Ashtanga in style. The difficulty depends on the poses the teacher chooses and the pace of the "flow" from pose to pose.
